Johannes Kreidler pursues a concept of music expanded into multimedia. In an oftentimes double-edged and provocative manner, his works question music for its confinements in history and social structure.
By means of a music-theatrical essay for two performers (one of them Kreidler himself) and vocal soloists, SELBSTAUSLÖSER deals with the technical aids of everyday objects that serve as a bridge to our personal experience of the world, cultural techniques that must be mastered in order to use them, and, at the same time, limitations that they impose due their hidden restrictions. Cross connections unfold between the sphere of the musical instrument (it serves as a mediator to the special world of sounds), the functions of vacuum cleaner and coffee machine, and, here lies Kreidler’s main point of interest, the technical instruments of modern media society from Facebook to Alexa.
